Sugar Alliance of the Philippines

The Sugar Alliance of the Philippines is an umbrella organization of sugar planters and millers which seeks to promote the development of the sugar industry by working/achieving a more favorable policy environment that protects the interests of the whole industry. It strives for unity between and among the various stakeholders of the industry.

It is composed of four national sugar planters’ federations and two associations of sugar millers – which is about 90% of the total industry, 80% of whom are small farmers.

Objectives

• To promote closer relationship and better cooperation between the sugar planters and millers;
• To provide a forum for discussion of industry problems;
• To secure collective action on matters of common interests to industry members; and
• To represent members in dealing with government agencies and other sectors.

Other Functions

• Acts as the Government’s Sub-Committee for the Sugar Minimum Access Volume to draft the implementing product specific guidelines for the Sugar MAV; and
• Acts Sugar Master Plan Steering Committee to oversee and implement the Master Plan of the Industry.
